Repairing a Unit Injector starts with understanding what can be tested, what can be repaired and which conditions require dedicated equipment. A professional repair strategy should separate individual component checks from complete dynamic testing instead of treating them as the same operation.

Repair instead of automatic exchange

When the condition of the injector can be assessed correctly and the repairable elements can be identified, overhaul can be a technically and economically meaningful alternative to complete replacement. The objective is not to repair everything at any cost, but to make the repair decision on the basis of evidence.

Start by isolating the functions you can evaluate

Nozzle condition, opening behaviour and sealing can be investigated independently using suitable adapters on a professional injector pop tester. InjectionPower and MARBED developed a range of adapters for Unit Injectors to make these component-level checks possible.

Where appropriate, instruments such as TP03 can support accurate pressure measurement and leakage-time evaluation, while basic electrical checks such as actuator resistance and continuity can be performed with the appropriate electrical measuring instrument.

Component checks are not full dynamic testing

A Unit Injector or Unit Pump combines mechanical pumping, actuation and injection in one assembly. Reproducing its complete operating cycle therefore requires the correct mechanical drive and controlled test conditions. For full dynamic testing, a dedicated cambox and the appropriate interfaces/control equipment are required.

This distinction matters: a useful component-level test should not be presented as a substitute for a complete dynamic test. Specialization is essential when the technology requires dedicated testing conditions.

A repair process built around evidence

A sound workflow is therefore progressive: inspect the component, isolate the functions that can be measured, repair where technically justified, then validate at the level required by the application. The tools support the specialist's judgement; they do not replace it.
