Workshops interested in manufacturing high-pressure diesel injection pipes often focus first on the equipment required to form the pipe ends.

Marbed 9376-DK1 Professional System is designed for the professional forming of conical diesel pipe ends and nipples.

However, having the forming equipment is only one part of establishing an effective in-house pipe manufacturing capability.

The workshop must also have access to the correct high-pressure tubing, threaded nuts, sleeves/collars, washers and related components.

This is where apparently simple requests such as “I need 6 mm tubing” require some additional technical definition.

“6 mm tubing” is not a complete specification

6 mm outside diameter alone is not enough to identify the correct tubing or the corresponding fittings.

High-pressure diesel injection pipes are engineered components. Before tubing, nuts and related components can be selected, the relevant technical specifications and application requirements must be established.

1. Start with the tubing specification

Two tubes may have the same 6 mm outside diameter and still be different products.

The inside diameter can vary according to the application. For example, a 6 mm tube may be manufactured with different internal diameters and consequently different wall thicknesses.

The tubing specification therefore needs to consider at least:

  • outside diameter;
  • inside diameter or wall thickness;
  • application;
  • required operating pressure;
  • appropriate material specification.

This is particularly important for high-pressure diesel applications, where tubing should not be selected simply because its external dimensions appear correct.

InjectionPower can supply automotive-grade seamless steel tubing sourced through a trusted European distribution channel from German tube manufacturers.

2. Then identify the end connections

Once the correct tubing has been established, the corresponding components used to manufacture the pipe must also be defined.

Depending on the application, these may include:

  • threaded nuts;
  • sleeves or collars;
  • washers and related forming components.

The thread cannot be assumed from the tube diameter alone.

Common applications may use metric threads such as M12×1.5, M14×1.5, M16×1.5, M18×1.5 or M20×1.5, while other applications may require different metric, imperial or US thread standards.

For this reason, a photo, existing component reference or precise thread specification is often the safest way to identify the required components.

3. Tube length is also a purchasing decision

High-quality tubing is normally manufactured and distributed in long bars. 6-metre bars are an efficient format for workshop consumption because they allow different finished pipe lengths to be cut with relatively low material waste.

Transporting a 6-metre bar internationally, however, can be impractical.

For smaller workshop supplies, InjectionPower can therefore provide tubing cut to more manageable lengths.

A practical solution is typically approximately 3 metres, which can be protected inside rigid plastic tubes for transport.

Shorter lengths are also possible, but the workshop should consider the effect on material utilisation.

For example, if a finished pipe requires approximately 800 mm of tubing:

  • a 1-metre piece produces one pipe with approximately 200 mm remaining;
  • a 3-metre piece can produce three such pipes while leaving approximately 600 mm available for other possible applications.

The most convenient shipping length is therefore not necessarily the most economical production length.

4. Consumables are part of the production capability

Having the equipment to manufacture high-pressure pipes is only one part of establishing an in-house production capability.

The workshop also needs an appropriate initial stock of:

tubing + nuts + sleeves/collars + washers and related consumable components.

InjectionPower can support customers implementing a pipe-manufacturing solution with an appropriate initial supply of these materials.

This service is intended to make the workshop's production capability operational and sustainable. It is therefore normally based on reasonable workshop stock quantities, rather than individual one-piece consumable orders.

What information should a workshop provide?

When requesting tubing and fittings for manufacturing diesel injection pipes, please provide:

  • tube outside diameter;
  • tube inside diameter or wall thickness;
  • application or type of injection system;
  • fitting thread and size, if known;
  • photos or references of the existing fittings;
  • approximate quantity of tubing required;
  • typical finished pipe lengths;
  • whether you already manufacture pipes in-house or are setting up this capability for the first time.

With this information, the tubing, fittings and appropriate supply format can be defined much more reliably.

A professional forming system becomes useful only when the workshop also has the materials required to manufacture the pipes it encounters in daily work.

For customers implementing the Marbed 9376-DK1 Professional System, InjectionPower can therefore also support the definition and initial supply of suitable consumable materials, including tubing and the corresponding pipe-end components.

This is intended as an accessory service supporting the implementation of the equipment, rather than as a one-piece-at-a-time consumables supply service.

The purpose is not simply to supply individual components, but to help the workshop establish a usable initial stock for the range of pipes it intends to manufacture.

The objective is to establish a practical initial workshop stock based on the applications the customer actually expects to service.
