ERT45R application kit for Delphi DP rotary pumps, including DP200, DP210 and DP310 timing applications. Includes programming smartcard, 2 m base cable and a mechanical injector equipped with lift sensor for dynamic timing acquisition. Requires the separate 81.01.1A01 Digital Pump Phasing System for angular reference and timing setup. Optional 81.01.1541 adds CPS (Carriage Position Sensing) measurement.

The DETEQ 81.01.1035 ERT45R Programming Kit upgrades the ERT45R test system to handle Delphi DP2.. and DP3.. electronically controlled rotary diesel pumps.

By loading the dedicated software via the supplied smartcard, the control unit becomes capable of timing acquiring and setting, advance piston travel measurement in degrees or millimeters, and CPS (Carriage Position Sensor) reading — enabling complete electronic characterization of the pump during test bench operation.

ERT45R DELPHI DP APPLICATION · 81.01.1035

Measure dynamic timing — and preserve it when the pump leaves the test bench

The DETEQ 81.01.1035 application kit extends the ERT45R platform to the timing work required on Delphi DP rotary pumps, including DP200, DP210 and DP310 applications.

For these pumps, the job is not simply to make the pump rotate. The technician must relate the real injection event to the angular position of the pump shaft, establish the required timing and then remove the correctly timed pump without disturbing that position.

Important: the 81.01.1035 is the application kit. The 81.01.1A01 Digital Pump Phasing System is separate equipment and forms the angular-reference and mechanical timing platform used with the application.

TWO REFERENCES, ONE TIMING MEASUREMENT

Where is the pump shaft — and when does injection actually occur?

Dynamic timing requires two independent references:

Pump-shaft angular position

81.01.1A01 provides the digital angular reference independently from the test bench, with 0.01° resolution.

Actual injection event

The 81.01.1035 kit includes a mechanical injector equipped with a lift sensor. Installed on the reference cylinder identified by the applicable pump test specification, it gives ERT45R the second signal required to detect the real injection event.

ERT45R correlates the injector-lift event with the pump-shaft angle so the operator can acquire the original timing, verify the timing dynamically and establish the required setting according to the applicable test specification.

The complete timing operation

STEP 1

Reference the shaft

Connect the pump to the digital angular-reference system and establish the shaft position.

STEP 2

Detect injection

Install the instrumented injector on the specified reference cylinder and acquire the real injection event through its lift sensor.

STEP 3

Establish timing

ERT45R calculates and displays the timing angle from the relationship between pump rotation and the actual injection event.

STEP 4

Preserve the setting

Lock the pump shaft at the established position and disconnect the dedicated coupling arrangement without rotating the pump shaft.

MEASUREMENT AND MECHANICS SOLVE THE SAME PROBLEM

Accurate timing is useless if removal changes the timing

Once the correct position has been found, a conventional coupling arrangement can force the operator to rotate the bench drive simply to reach or release the coupling. That would rotate the pump shaft and undo the timing just established.

The DP configuration therefore uses a dedicated two-part coupling arrangement: one half remains on the bench drive and the other remains with the pump. After the pump shaft has been locked, the two halves can be separated without rotating the shaft.

The connection must also avoid angular backlash. The electronic angular reference and the mechanical transmission work together so the measured angle remains meaningful through the complete timing operation.

What the 81.01.1035 kit includes

Programming smartcard

Enables the ERT45R Delphi DP application functions. It programs the ERT45R application environment; it does not program a pump ECU.

2 m base cable

Provides the connection used by the DP application, including the instrumented injector lift-sensor signal.

Instrumented mechanical injector

Provides the physical injection-event reference used for dynamic timing acquisition.

The application documentation supports setup and operation. Pump timing and calibration values must be taken from the applicable pump manufacturer's test specifications.

OPTIONAL CPS MEASUREMENT

Timing angle and Carriage Position Sensing are different measurements

Dynamic timing answers: when does the injection event occur relative to pump rotation?

CPS answers a different question: what is the carriage displacement under the specified operating condition? The pump documentation relates this position to the torque-trimmer mechanism and maximum fuel delivery.

The optional 81.01.1541 CPS Sensor Kit adds this measurement capability. It includes the sensor, connection cable and specific mechanical adapter, and each CPS sensor must be calibrated together with the ERT45R unit with which it will be used.

Build a timing capability, not another isolated tester

The digital angular-reference hardware is not dedicated only to Delphi DP pumps. The 81.01.1A01 architecture is also used by other digitally timed ERT45R applications, with the appropriate application-specific extensions.

That is the practical value of the ERT45R modular architecture: common hardware can be retained and reused while new pump-family capability is added through the corresponding application equipment.

See the complete timing method

The technical article explains why dynamic timing requires both an angular reference and a real injection-event reference, and why the mechanical coupling arrangement is part of the timing solution rather than a separate convenience.
